Status Quo

Asphalt cracks,
blossom in
overgrowth from
uninhibited weeds
bearing resemblance
to our
status quo.
Below average
becomes average,
and inner-city
students wilt
splittingĀ seams,
in education,
forced unraveling
by students
falling. Failing.
Both weeds
get cut
before they
can live.

A concrete jungle of people
stone faced, stuck glaring
as they pass by, elevated over each other
only in their thoughts yet
they walk on the same ground,
none higher than the rest.
